Today, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, Imo State Governor Elect, received in audience the leadership of PDP South East Elders Forum led by Senator Ben Ndi Obi, the Ojeligbo Ozi, at his Owerri Civic Centre residence.
The leader of the delegation Sen. Ben Obi, while speaking commended the leadership qualities of the Imo State Governor Elect, Emeka Ihedioha, describing him as a well groomed politician who will at all times fight for the collective benefits of his people. He noted that with Ihedioha as the Imo Governor, the State will return to its rightful place as a number 1 State among the comity of States in the federation.
Sen. Obi noted that during the trying periods of the PDP at the National level, Ihedioha was one of those who provided the greatest support to the then caretaker committee which He was a member of. He expressed his belief that the man Ihedioha will transform Imo State and most importantly champion the unity of the South East region which is most needed at this material time.
Speaking also, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a renowned economist and former chairman of NDDC, described Ihedioha as a man who has passed through a very tasking political tutelage which has placed him as the first among equal in the politics of today. Chief Ugochukwu urged the incoming governor to unite all major stakeholders in the State not minding the individual political affiliations, noting that Imo in the past 7 years has been poorly managed.
In his response, the very elated Ihedioha thanked the forum for their visit, describing it as an honor done to the entire Imo People, for choosing Imo as the number one State to visit and using it as a point of contact to congratulate other sister States in the South East. His Excellency expressed that despite the high level of decay witnessed in every sector of the State, the incoming government under his watch is ready and determined to returning the pride and dignity of the Imo Man.
In his words, “the expectations are huge, I’m aware that the same way people are celebrating our victory all over the world is the same way they are looking forward to what we can offer. By the special grace of God, we shall return Imo to the path of honor, pride and dignity. We have not come to lay blames on any body, we have come to work. I urge all those who contested with me to come under one umbrella lets move Imo forward. For me, Imo is one”.
The delegation also had in attendance, former Governor Okwi Nwodo, Chief Dubem Onyia, a former House of Representatives member (1999), and later minister of State for foreign affairs 1999-2003, Prof. ABC Nwosu, a former minister of Health, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a former NDDC Chairman, Sen. Aboti, HE: Chief Achike Udenwa, Onwa Imo, former Governor Imo State and Dr Mrs Kema Chikwe, Igolo, a former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
