PRESS RELEASE

RT. HON. ONYEAGUCHA RECEIVES USAID E-WASH PROGRAMME MANAGERS

– ASSURED IMOLITES OF REGULAR AND PORTABLE WATER SUPPLY

The Secretary to the State Government, Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeagucha has expressed the readiness of the present administration to provide Imolites with portable and regular water supply. Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeagucha stated this when the USAID E-WASH programme managers paid him a courtesy visit in his office. He expressed his happiness at the level of readiness exhibited by the team of the USAID E-WASH managers to ensure that adequate and regular water supply is restored in the State.

Hon. Onyeagucha assured the team that the present administration of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha shall make sure that efforts of the USAID E-WASH programme managers are complemented for the benefit of the entire Imo people. He expressed dismay that some States in Nigeria like Taraba, Sokoto and Niger States are all ahead of Imo in the USAID E-WASH Programme and promised that Imo State will in no distant time be ahead of those States considering the level of interest by the present administration on public utilities on the State. However, the SSG further appealed to the group to ensure that water supply is not restricted to Owerri alone but Orlu and Okigwe areas inclusive.

In his reaction, the State Team Leader of Effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene Services (E-WASH) programme, Mr. Eutychus John, congratulated the Secretary to the State Government, Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeagucha for his appointment and appealed to the State Government to put in place production facilities at the Otammiri headwork for distribution of regular and portable water in the State. He appealed for cooperation among ministries that are associated with water supply like the Ministry of Health, Public Utilities, and others to ensure coordination in the public water system.

In her own reaction, the General Manager of Imo State Water Corporation, Lady Mrs. Hope Anyiam, congratulated Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeagucha for his new appointment and said that they have come to brief the State Government on the level of USAID activities in the State as regards portable water supply. She used the opportunity to explain that E-WASH is to create a professionally-managed public water system by facilitating regular water supply in the state.
