PDP SET TO FLAG OFF SOUTH EAST PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN RALLY IN OWERRI ON TUESDAY AS ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR MOVES TO SCUTTLE PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S CHANCES IN THE SOUTH EAST GEO POLITICAL ZONE- SAYS ENGR KINGSLEY ONWUBIKO.
For the PDP, there is no other better place to flag off its South East Presidential campaign Rally in the entire South East region other than Imo, the only APC controlled state in the South East zone.
Insiders believe the move by PDP was politically strategic as the Nigeria’s leading opposition party is hell bent and well determined to beat President Buhari “black and blue” in Imo, the only APC controlled State in the entire South East zone come February 16th 2019 presidential election.
Speaking to Newsmen in Owerri on Monday, Engr Kingsley Onwubiko, the Secretary Committee on Volunteer/ Support Groups, Imo PDP Campaign Council, said PDP decided to flag off its Presidential Campaign in the South East Zone in Owerri in other to encourage, consolidate and re-awaken the minds of its faithful in the State.
He said the job ahead of the party in the forthcoming general election was a very serious one that can not be treated or handled with kid gloves hence the decision of the National Leadership of the party to begin early to pursue optimal results in other to harvest massive votes for the Victory of the party during forthcoming general elections in the State.
Engr Onwubiko maintained that most voters in Imo state have, as at today become more exposed to political happenings and are now well convinced that a vote for the PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a vote to change and better their lives for good..
According to him, this was the main reason the leadership of the party in the State had no other choice than to wholeheartedly support the emergence of His Excellency Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha for a second time as the guber candidate of Party, believing that among all the hordes of aspirants that contested for the party guber ticket, only Ihedioha understands Atiku more better and possesses the wherewithal to win Imo state for the opposition party.
He urged Imolites and Nigerians in general not to be deceived by the antics of the APC describing the forthcoming general election as a battle between the forces of darkness and light adding that in spite of all the fake promises made by the ruling party APC, it has remained a house of thieves who are not amenable to change.
He said President Buhari and the APC are not yet ready to compare their three and half ruinous years in power with PDP’s 16 years of economic boom and prosperity, urging thousands of PDP supporters who will be besieging, Dan Anyiam Stadium, venue of the event on Tues not to allow the outgoing President and his party APC return back to power.
“The only way we can show these men that we are serious is not to allow them come back because if they come back, they will use the remaining four years to finish the country. They will do what our parents used to teach us while we were kids, ‘do not talk while you are eating’. If you disturb them, they will tell you they are eating. They will be busy eating from what is left, all the struggles of PDP is what they will be squandering. And they will do that in four years. After that, they will ask you for another four years.
“This election is between two parties that have been in power. We have challenged APC severally to an open debate where the masses will be present. Let them show Nigerians their scorecard and we will show ours too. The only place they can beat us is in corruption. You know when you attend APC rallies, they will give you money and you will not ask them where the money was coming from. When they give you N5, 000, they will go back and take N5 billion in your name.
“Please do not go asleep after tomorrows rally. There is what we call apathy. Avoid apathy. Do not just assume that we have won. On February 16, come out with your PVCs and vote PDP. We want to beat APC mercilessly in Imo. You have to go out and vote PDP. After Voting, do not leave. APC people are all magicians, because if you leave, two thousand votes will become two million votes like we witnessed in Kano, Kaduna and Katsina in 2015. Pls Stay there after voting. Don’t go home until they announce the results, you can then go home”, Onwubiko stated.
According to him, next month’s general election would be an avenue for the “Nigerian people to carry out a referendum between the forces of darkness and those of light which Atiku represents”.
He said President Buhari administration was no longer ready to sustain the peace and Unity of this country and must be voted out of power for the good and interest of Nigeria.
He therefore called on the people to ignore all the advances of the APC which he said has remained a harbinger of evil in Nigeria since their assumption adding that PDP won presidential election out-rightly in Imo and in the South East in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015, saying, the situation will not change in 2019 especially with the low and abysmal level of performance of APC in the South East region in the last three and a half years in power.
He charged PDP supporters to continue with issues-based campaigns and avoid the temptation of being dragged so low as to match the APC insults for insults. Quoting a former American First Lady, Mitchell Obama, who said, “when they go low, we go high” adding that the people of the South East zone are ready to reciprocate the 97/5% dividends which the APC administration has given to them.
