PRESS RELEASE

IMO INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

Following report of incessant harassment of commercial vehicle operators by hoodlums and illegal revenue collectors disguising as Imo State Government or Imo State Internal Revenue Service agents, the Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has ordered the immediate suspension of collection of daily tolls, tickets and taxes from all commercial road users, taxis, Keke, Inagas, Buses, Lorries etc all over Imo State until further notice.

This was a decision of the Imo State Executive Council meeting held on the 6th of November, 2019, following a motion by the Imo State Internal Revenue to that effect.

This ban is with immediate effect and will continue until there is a harmonisation and unification of all road taxes to eliminate duplicity in revenue collection and to expose illegal extortionists embarrassing the good image of this government.

Consequently the general public and security agencies are hereby directed to arrest anyone collecting or purporting to be extorting motorists under the guise of collecting revenue on behalf of government.

This decision followed widespread complaints from Imolites which has reached the Governor.

From

Executive Chairman

Imo State Internal Revenue Service, IIRS
