Imo state will witness a change of baton come 29th day of May, 2019. The incumbent and outgoing Governor Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha would be giving way to Rt. Hon. Chukwuemeka Nkemakolam Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. As expected, Imo people expect a paradigm shift after eight of the Rochas Okorochas Administration. No wonder the high expectation Imo people have towards their governor-elect.

The governor-elect on his part has maintained a humble disposition in victory. For Ihedioha, his mergence is divine. It is a result of hard work, patience, tenacity and dedication in pursuit of an opportunity to serve the masses of Imo. At victory, Hon. Ihedioha is humble at the magnitude of trust Imo people have bestowed on him. That trust has metamorphosed into a burden to deliver and make Imo people happy.

For Hon. Ihedioha failure is not an option. The challenges and burden of steering the ship of governance at this critical time is enormous and has taken over him. But Imo people must be sure of one thing, that Hon. Ihedioha understands that the task to fix Imo is huge. He understands the challenges that have befallen his incoming government. Granted that there is no magical fix to the problems facing the state at this time, but Hon. Ihedioha has promised a systematic approach towards addressing the dearth of governance the state has witnessed under the current administration.

He has promised to lead the state in a manner that guarantees equitable distribution of social amenities across all segments of the state. Hon. Ihedioha has promised to unify Imo State and to spread dividends of democracy across the three senatorial zones of the state. In summary, the governor-elect has said he will not be governor of Orlu, Owerri or Okigwe zone. Rather he has made his desires known that he wants to be seen as Governor of Imo State, properly so called.

With elections over, Hon. Ihedioha will be fair to all persons irrespective of their political affiliation. Imo needs all hands to be on deck to realize our collective goals and aspirations.

Above all, Ihedioha promises Imo a responsible leadership. A leadership that respects the rule of law, traditional institutions, ethics in governance, and one that engenders transparency and accountability.

Due process and good governance will be core in Hon. Ihedioha’s service delivery to the state. Hon. Ihedioha will not be an accidental governor having gone through years of public service. He is a thorough bred administrator, who is trained on the rudiments of administration.

As Imo journeys into transition, there is no doubt Imo is safe under Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha. The years ahead looks green. Surely God has answered the prayers of Ndi Imo.

To God Be The Gory.
