Excerpts from Governor Ihedioha’s speech at the inauguration of the Local Governments’ Interim Management Committee.
“…We shall, within 6 months, conduct elections into Local Government Councils in our State…”
“…You have a duty to yourselves, your families and your Constituencies to make yourselves proud; the legacies you will establish would be a sign post and will remain indelible in the minds of several people. If you act well, you will be appreciated, respected and seen well in the eyes of the Law…”
“…If you fail your Constituents, you would have failed yourselves and may have perhaps jeopardized your political future…”
“…The House of Assembly as enshrined in our Constitution would perform oversight function over the administration of the Local Governments, I would therefore advise you to cooperate fully with the House of Assembly to ensure that our goal of a democratic governance is attained…”
“…We shall not hesitate to act appropriately in the best interest of our State if you fail to discharge your responsibilities as expected of you; we want to restore happiness, joy, prosperity, confidence and faith back to our State…Imo has to change for the best..”
“…With the request of the House of Assembly, we shall set-up an audit panel to investigate the activities of the immediate past Local Government administration, this we shall do in keeping to the provisions of the Law…”
“…Make your Local Government Areas safe, relate with the Traditional Institutions and relate with the respective autonomous Town Unions, relate with the people, the religious; it is important that you take account of your actions…”
“…We have not addressed the people of the State since we assumed Office, it is deliberate because we promised you we shall be systematic, we told you we will be deliberate in our actions. We have taken certain deliberate measures and we can only address you when we have our facts right but I want to assure you that Imo is today, a free State…”
