You will recall that few weeks ago, when His Excellency Governor Emeka Ihedioha visited the Orji flyover with his Executives, there and then he invited the Council of Registered Engineers in the state and member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), when they came, they noticed certain failures at the flyover, his Excellency therefore directed that the flyover be closed temporally, the NSE and the Regulating body should conduct a proper integrity test on the flyover and some other structures in the state like turnel and Ph Road Owerri.
They institution therefore formed a structural integrity team made up of Professionals, consultants to investigate these structures in the state. The team is chairmaned by Engr Kingsley Onwubiko and Engr Ebere Ononiwu as secretary.
Speaking to the press, Engr Onwubiko who have served in various capacity with Nigerian Society of Engineers amongst which is the chairman committee on failed structures in the state explained that they have come to conduct a detailed assignment as directed by His Excellency, that their report will general public what actually they have come to do today and their professional report as regards to the situation at hand.
Onwubiko further explained that this is not the involvement of the institution with the government rather a responsibility given to them by the governor, and also it is part of the core values of NSE to ensure that they maintain standard in basic infrastructures in the state. Just like they have done in the past, they relates with every government to ensure that projects are done according to the standard, they also advice the developers to do the needful on the areas the government is not doing well. What the government does is to provide better landing by giving ear to the advice from the NSE.
He also thanked the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Hon. Chibuike Onyeukwu with his team and some staff from the Ministry of works who also visited the flyover today to inspect what the NSE are doing.
